WINNERS OF THE RWTH INNOVATION AWARD 2022
The RWTH Innovation Award 2022 Honors 4 Groundbreaking Research Teams
Together with RWTH Aachen University we honored outstanding technologies with the annual RWTH Innovation Award. This year 4 teams were awarded:
The team Neureka took first place with a Software Development Kit für neuromorphic AI-Chips in Edge-Applications. Neureka aims to bring neuromorphic computing to everyone's devices and created a hardware and software development kit to make neuromorphic computing systems more accessible for device makers. The kit integrates neuromorphic chips into computing systems and enables easy programming of AI applications with reduced risk and energy consumption. Customers include industrial users, mobile device manufacturers, and Smart City IoT device providers.
2nd place went to ProNano for the the development of a Electromagnetically Heatable Nano-Modified Stent for the Treatment of Hollow Organ Tumors. The stent is made of a polymer and has magnetic nanoparticles embedded in its fibers. When electromagnetic fields are applied, the stent heats up and destroys the tumor tissue. The stent can be used to treat tumors in various hollow organs and also has potential for use in cardiovascular diseases.
Two third places were awarded once to the team JSC/ITV and the innovation JuLES and then to DigiBatt for a Digital Battery Twin for Safe and More Efficient Use. The SaaS platform JuLES is key for climateneutral industrial processes. It calculates energy flows quickly with high precision using AI-based techniques and fluid mechanics. JuLES combines two systems: PIESRGAN and JupyterLab, reducing complexity and making supercomputers more accessible. DigiBatt developed a cloud-based batterymanagement system to improve lithiumion battery performance and reliability by using bigdata, cloudcomputing, and AI to monitor battery state, predict degradation, detect errors and optimize operation. The solution benefits energy storage stakeholders and contributes to safe and efficient battery use.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants for their innovative technologies! The application phase for the next Innovation Award will start in fall 2023. Find out more about all four innovative technologies in the clip below or here.
