Turning Ideas into Assets: IP Essentials for NeuroSys Researchers

Our colleague Roberta Caterino had the pleasure of contributing to the 8th #NeuroSys Academy with our workshop “Turning Ideas into Assets: IP Essentials for NeuroSys Researchers.”

In an interactive format, including hands-on exercises and scenario-based discussions, we explored how researchers can strategically protect their results. Key topics included:

  • What distinguishes a patentable technical invention from a non-patentable idea
  • The specific challenges related to computer-implemented inventions
  • How open-source licenses influence software use and potential commercialization in research

As part of Project E within NeuroSys, we also work on shaping the strategic innovation ecosystem.

We support the technical projects in turning scientific breakthroughs into viable business models and sustainable pathways for technology transfer. 

Many thanks to the NeuroSys PhDs and Postdocs for their active participation, and to coordination team (Daniela Büttner and Julia Floehr) for hosting the session and fostering such a productive exchange.
