Fab Lab vs. Corona
ESC.NRW provides 3D printers to counteract shortage of medical devices
The Fab Lab of RWTH Aachen University makes its 3D printers, laser cutters and other digital production machines available for the rapid production of urgently needed parts in the medical sector.
Since January 2020 the Fab Lab is supported by the "Excellence Start-up Center" initiative (ESC.NRW) at RWTH Aachen University. Now the 3D printers provided by the ESC.NRW are being used to counteract the predicted shortage of medical equipment and consumables. It is planned to use them to produce face shields for doctors, emergency ventilators for hospitals, and forearm door handles for office doors, for example.
A big thank you goes out to the Ministry of Economics, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy of NRW, as well as the Projektträger Jülich, who have (swiftly and without bureaucracy) agreed to let us support this new initiative!
